Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is the 14th public university in Malaysia and is located at Mengabang Telipot, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. Its strategic location, which is along the coast of the South China Sea, makes UMT an ideal maritime university. UMT offers a broad spectrum of programs both in the sciences and the social sciences. The Department of Engineering Science, Faculty of Science and Technology, was developed to organize and conduct the Environmental Technology program offering basic courses in engineering sciences and environmental fields.

Following the commitment in environmental science and technology activities, the Department is organizing the Environmental Science and Technology Conference 2009 (ESTEC ’09) from 7th to 8th December 2009. This conference serves as a platform to present, discuss and share the latest issues, technologies and treatments for the research and development in environmental fields. It is also aimed to enhance knowledge, information and education in environmental science and technologies as well as to share research findings, the latest technology and the best practice in environmental protection and conservation. The emphasis of the conference is to discuss contemporary challenges and constraints in environmental issues and finally to enhance existing networks and collaboration among participants.
