Student Affairs and Alumni Division
Objectives
The objectives of the Student Affairs and Alumni Division are to
- provide programmes and services of high quality so as to increase the chances for academic
excellence and to assist in character development and students’ professionalism.
- produce holistic students through student development programmes which integrate
elements of knowledge, leadership, intellectual, aesthetic, spiritual, physical and creativity and
thus be able to contribute towards students’ well being and meaningful campus life.
- pay serious attention to students’ welfare, talents, and future endeavours.
Tasks and Responsibilities
To achieve the above objectives, the division makes every effort to do the following:
- welcome and help new students to adapt to the university community.
- introduce and inculcate ethics and professionalism among students through various
meaningful programmes and co-curriculum activities.
- provide educational programmes and services that develop students’ character and promote
life long learning.
- encourage healthy lifestyle.
- assist in molding students’ personality, professionalism, and leadership qualities.
- create esprit de corps among students, lecturers, and support staffs.
- assist in creating safe and comfortable environment on campus.
Pledge
In an effort to provide the best services to UMT students and staff, the division pledges that it will
- provide good facilities, services, activities for students, lecturers, support staff and society
- offer excellent services to other divisions in need of assistance from well trained, customer
friendly and helpful personnel
- provide educational programmes, services, and exciting facilities for students so as to preserve
their love for the campus
- give full support to UMT staff who are dedicated and committed in conducting activities,
providing services and facilities that will bring local and national recognitions
- hold on to a student-oriented philosophy
- respect the values and differences of each individual that contribute to the progress of the
campus community
- understand the emotional, social, physical, cultural and intellectual needs of each individual
student
- provide a safe, comfortable and friendly environment
- appreciate assistance and cooperation from the community on campus or those from outside
- recognize the importance of inculcating community spirit among students, academicians and
support staff
- respect each unique culture, custom, and religion
Administrative Units
In addition to the central administration itself, there are 3 other units under the division: students' welfare and development centre, extra-curricular and sports centre, and arts and cultural centre.
Administration: The central administration has the following objectives:
- To manage and supervise all matters pertaining to administration, finance, acquisition,
staff development, student discipline and HEP programmes.
- To provide efficient and effective support service for all HEP Centres as well as for post graduate students in order to increase professionalism and performance in executing and meeting every procedure, standard and circulars.
- To ensure that every administrative matter is executed within the stipulated time given and
fulfilled and met the required guidelines, procedures and circulars.
- To establish and maintain good rapports and teamwork among students, staffs and external
agencies.
Students’ Welfare and Development Centre: This centre was set up for the following objectives:
- To offer counseling and consultancy services to students such as academic problems, personal problems,
and career options.
- To manage applications, update students’ accommodation records and be responsible for
creating a safe and comfortable environment and to administer and coordinate matters pertaining to scholarship and loan.
- To provide medical services, consultancy, talks and campaigns from recognized doctors
and nurses.
Co Curriculum and Sports Centre: The centre was set up for the following objectives:
- To create a physical and spiritual balanced and holistic education so that the students will
become more matured.
- To incorporate and inculcate leadership qualities, staf discipline, organizational skills and
teamwork.
- To provide space and opportunities for students to discover and develop their talents.
- To nurture the spirit of cooperation and unity.
- To provide opportunities for active participations in high performance and mass sports
amongst students.
Arts and Cultural Centre: The centre was set up for the following objectives:
- To uncover potentials and develop talents of the art inclined students.
- To generate charismatic artists who shall carry on the cultural heritage of the nation.
- To manage and conduct required co-curricular courses and activities as prescribed by
UMT.
- To increase the number of art activists for the development of national cultural industry.
- To provide professional services in terms of music, dance and multi-art ensembles as well as theater production.
Services
The division provides several services.
Accommodation: The students' hostel is situated about 1 km from the campus and can accommodate 1500 students at RM4 a day. Students have a choice of commuting to campus either by their own vehicles or bus services available at the rate of 30 sen per trip. First year students are strongly recommended to stay in the hostel. There are also houses for rent in the vicinity of the campus. Students and visitors may lease any of the three guest houses for a short stay. Meals can be bought from cafeterias on campus or stalls and restaurants nearby.
Medical services: Medical services are available at the Student Health Centre at the following hours:
8.00am to 4.45pm (Sunday - Wednesday)
8.00am to 4.30pm (Thursday)
For further
medical treatment, students will be referred to the government hospital.
Insurance: Students are charged a minimal fee for group insurance and they are entitled to claim for accident indemnities and hospital charges.
Counselling and career guidance: A trained counsellor provides counselling services to students to assist them in handling personal and academic problems.
Financial support, loans and scholarships: The division will also provide assistance in processing the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) and scholarships sponsored by State Foundations and other agencies and private organisations.
