KUALA TERENGGANU, 9 February – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has successfully hosted the 8th Inter-Asasi Games (SAM2025), which took place at the university’s Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sports Complex.
The closing ceremony was officiated by UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim. He expressed his appreciation to all the athletes, officers, and volunteers taking part in the event.
According to Prof. Zamri, SAM2025 not only served as a platform for showcasing sports skills among the foundation students but also developing good characters, instilling sportsmanship, and fostering a stronger tie between Malaysian higher education institutions.
“The games provided opportunities for the students to sharpen their talents, improve their discipline, and build sportsmanship. I believe the foundation students’ involvement in sports not only help improve their academic achievement but also help them become more dynamic and holistic graduates,” said Prof. Zamri in his speech during the closing ceremony.
SAM2025 received full support from the Council of Deans/Directors of Public University Foundation Centres and was organized by UMT STEM Foundation Centre (PASTEM) in collaboration with UMT Sports and Recreational Centre, and several strategic partners, including Terengganu Sports Council, Terengganu Education Department, and Terengganu Tourism Department.
In addition, about 200 foundation students under the sponsorship of Yayasan Perkasa Siswa, Ministry of Higher Education, became volunteers during the tournament.
The two-day event starting 7 February was participated by contingents from several institutions, including foundation centres from public universities, polytechnics, and matriculation centres in Kelantan. Various events were held and the competitions were intense.
“I would like to congratulate all the athletes who had won. But what was more important than victories was the sportsmanship shown by all participants. Every experience, whether bitter or sweet, is a valuable lesson,” Prof. Zamri said.
He also hoped that the tournament will continue to be organized in the future and possibly at a wider level.
