KUALA NERUS, 7 July 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) remains committed to strengthening its inclusive policies to ensure equitable access to higher education for all segments of society, particularly students from the B40 income group.

The Bingkas Kasih initiative, a partial tuition fee assistance programme aimed at helping students continue their studies, stands as a testament to UMT’s commitment to easing the financial burden on students and their families.

A total of 36 new students for the 2025/2026 session comprising students from the STEM Foundation and Diploma in Fisheries programmes have benefited from the Bingkas Kasih initiative, each receiving a tuition fee contribution of RM200.

The aid was presented by Professor Dr Mohd Izani bin Mohd Zain, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), at UMTCC during the Mahasiswa Idaman dan Kehidupan Kampus slot of the Minggu Jalinan Mesra orientation programme.

Also present at the session were the HEPA (Student Affairs and Alumni Division) management team that always demonstrate their full commitment to supporting student welfare.

This initiative is one of the university’s proactive efforts through HEPA to ease the initial financial burden often faced by students entering university life, particularly those from low-income families. The HEPA team conducted an initial screening of applicants through an online form made available after the UPU results were released on 12 June.

According to Professor Dr Mohd Izani, the financial assistance is hoped to motivate students to remain resilient and enthusiastic in their academic journey.

“UMT is always concerned with student welfare, especially during the early stages of university life, which can be emotionally and financially challenging. Bingkas Kasih is one way we show them they are not alone,” he said.

One of the recipients, Nur Afiqah Umairah binti Anwar, a STEM Foundation student, expressed her gratitude for the support.

“I am deeply grateful and touched by this assistance. It has truly helped ease the burden on my parents, who are doing their best to prepare everything I need for university. Thank you, UMT and HEPA, for your care and concern.”

Programmes such as this clearly reflect the university’s strong sense of responsibility towards the well-being of its students, while also strengthening the bond between the institution and its newest cohort as they begin to adapt to campus life.

Best wishes to all recipients and may the aid be used to its fullest benefit.
