Kuala Nerus, 28 September 2025 – A total of 2015 new students have registered at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) for the 2025/2026 Academic Session and will be enrolled in 36 programmes under seven faculties.
Of this number, 15 are international students from countries including the Maldives, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sudan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, and Kenya, who will be pursuing undergraduate studies.
UMT Vice-Chancellor Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim said the registration process that began as early as 8 a.m. went smoothly as planned.
He said UMT is always ready to receive new students by providing sufficient accommodation facilities, along with other basic needs such as teaching and learning rooms, modern laboratories, and comfortable cafés to ensure students’ well-being throughout their studies.
He added that UMT has introduced three new programmes, namely the Bachelor of Renewable Energy Technology with Honours, Bachelor of Electrical Technology (Energy and Power) with Honours, and Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology) with Honours (Dual Degree) starting this coming session.
The introduction of these new programmes is in line with the country’s current needs and is expected to produce more experts in the fields of renewable energy, electrical technology, and maritime studies in the future.
To help students adapt to campus life, an orientation called Minggu Jalinan Mesra will be held from 28 September to 4 October 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed his appreciation to all students who have chosen UMT as their destination for knowledge and hoped that they will adapt well and fully utilize the opportunities available during their time at the university.
Meanwhile, Farzana Nur Shakilla, 20, one of the new students enrolling in the Bachelor of Counselling with Honours programme, said that the registration process at UMT was very simple and student friendly.
“The registration process at UMT was easy and smooth. The friendly staff made me feel very comfortable. Thank you, UMT, for welcoming us warmly.”
Apart from the main campus in Kuala Nerus, UMT also has a second campus in Bukit Kor, Marang, which will hold lectures on 5 October 2025. The campus accommodates 332 students of three programmes under the Faculty of Food Science and Agrotechnology, involving 28 courses of study. All lecture and laboratory facilities at this campus have been fully prepared for use by the new students.
In addition, UMT places great importance on students’ welfare through various forms of initial educational assistance and basic support to ease their financial burden.
Among the initiatives provided are the Bingkas Kasih Assistance, a registration fee subsidy of RM200 per student; the Zakat Al Amin Assistance, a welfare aid of RM500 per student; and the Yayasan Perkasa Siswa KPT Educational Assistance, which provides RM1,000 in initial educational aid for selected cases. Basic needs assistance such as dry food items, daily necessities, and logistical support are also made available.
These efforts reflect UMT’s commitment to ensuring students can pursue their studies more comfortably with their welfare well taken care of.
