Celebrating Aidiladha on campus has given a Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) student a different kind of experience.

To Nur Anis Annisa Roslan, 21, she made the right decision when she chose to stay on campus during this year’s Aidiladha celebration while her friends went home to their families to celebrate the occasion.

The first-year student from the Bachelor of Economy (Natural Resources) programme decided to enhance her self-skills by participating as volunteer in the Korban Perdana programme organized by UMT’s Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre.

“I plan to gain new experiences for my self-development during my years as a UMT student.

“I made the right decision when I volunteered to participate in the Korban Perdana programme even though it meant I had to celebrate Aidiladha on campus.

“This unique experience may not be offered at other places.

She said that the programe has helped her find new friends among the UMT volunteers.

“I was the only student volunteer among my classmates. I met the other volunteers during the briefing session held by the centre’s management team.

She commented that she learned a lot as a volunteer for the programme. She gained a new experience in managing the programme, which involved duty distribution, communication between the korban participants, and allocation of the meat among others.

Meanwhile, the coordinator of the programme, Ahmad Mustaffa Mohamad, said the centre provided seven cows to meet the demands from the participants.

“The centre has organized the Korban Perdana programme for the past 10 years, and Alhamdulillah the programme has received support from UMT staff, the local community, and also private agencies that have given donations.

“The programme is meant to provide the opportunity for UMT staff and the surrounding community to participate in this ibadah that is one of the Islamic practices.

He added that a portion of the meat is cooked at the centre while the remaining is handed out to the surrounding community.

The celebration observed by all Muslims around the world is as remembrance of the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim a.s., who was willing to slaughter his son Prophet Ismail because of his obedience to Allah SWT.
