Kuala Nerus—Universiti Malaysia Terenganu (UMT) has launched UMT special number plate series through an initiative by UMT Career and Entrepreneurship Centre.

UMT became the fourth higher education institution in the country to be given approvals by the Road Transport Department (RTD), Ministry of Transport, and Ministry of Higher Education to sell the plate series.  

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar said UMT has launched an online bidding system called eBida to facilitate transparent and efficient bidding of the number plate series.

The first bidding phase will be open from 1.00 pm today until 1.00 pm on 12 July.

“This initiative is intended to allow UMT staff, its alumni, the community, and companies to own UMT special number plate series,” Professor Nor Aieni said.

The plate series bidding for the Platinum category is set at RM55,000, Golden RM20,000, Super Silver RM5,000, and Silver RM300, and the bidding can be done online at ebida.umt.edu.my.

Professor Nor Aieni said that UMT is expected to generate an income of RM5 million from this initiative, and it will be used for the development and research and UMT alumni.

The series that have been successfully bid are valid for registration within 12 months starting from the date of the results and are subject to RTD’s latest rules and regulations. The special number plate series will start from UMT 1 to UMT 9999.

UMT has received approval from RTD to open the bidding for three years until 2023.

UMT Alumni Association and UMT Jaya Holdings have been appointed as official agents for the promotion of the special number plate series.

UMT is also offering the service to any interested higher education institutions, individuals, or organizations to help with income generation.

Also present at the launching event was UMT Alumni Association President Mohd Khairul Hakimi Mohd Nawi, who is also a member of UMT Board of Directors.
