It is widely known that the maritime industry has great potential to boost the advancement and ensure the prosperity of the world’s economy. Hence, maritime industry’s development requires more sophisticated digital technology integration in order to maintain its ecosystem’s sustainability.

In line with this realization, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is always committed to providing the opportunities to academicians, researchers, industry players, engineers, and local as well international policy makers to share new discoveries and latest innovative achievements in maritime research.

UMT became the host for the 7th International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Maritime Safety and Technology (Ai-MAST 2021) that ran for three days from 16-18 October. The conference that was held online via WEBEX platform was organized by the Faculty of Maritime Studies, UMT, in collaboration with Mokpo National Maritime University. The conference was officiated by UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar.

Themed “Revitalizing a Sustainable Development for Strategic Revolution in Trade, Shipping, Port, and Logistics Industries towards Enhancing the Universal Accessibility”, Ai-MAST 2021 served as the best platform for researchers to share their studies’ findings and new discoveries.

A total of 90 local and international researchers from Malaysia, Brunei, Sweden, Indonesia, Korea, Bangladesh, China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka presented their studies’ findings and future outlooks of all aspects of maritime navigation and economy related to the conference theme, especially logistics, ports, and shipping.

The conference also became an interactive medium for discussing popular contemporary issues on navigation, maritime economy, policies and management, education, and training through four keynote speeches delivered by local and international academic and industry figures in logistics and ports.   

Ideas developed during the conference were expected to assist the maritime industry in facing the challenges in supply chain through high-impact publications and innovations.
