KUALA NERUS, 2 March 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) through its Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre (PISM) continues to create uniqueness in celebrating the month of Ramadan with the organization of the UMT Ramadan Festival 2025.

This year is even more special as it marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the UMT Mosque, first being in operation in 2015.

For the past decade, the UMT Mosque has not only served as a place of worship for the university community but also as a platform to strengthen community relations through various initiatives, including the provision of communal iftar, a temporary nursery space for parents who wish to perform the tarawih prayers, and various mosque enrichment programmes.

According to the Head of the Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre, Dr. Kasyfullah Abd Kadir, the concept of shared iftar served on platters for four to five people continues to be a unique practice at UMT in the spirit of reviving the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“Besides strengthening the bond between students and the community, it also promotes a culture of sharing food and being in moderation when breaking fast,” he said.

In addition, to make it convenient for parents who wish to perform the tarawih prayer, PISM provides a temporary daycare service managed by UMT students. This facility is open to students as well as local residents in need.

“Many parents, especially mothers, find it difficult perform the tarawih prayer at the mosque because they need to take care of small children. With the presence of this temporary daycare, they can focus on their worshipping without having to worry about their children,” said Dr. Kasyfullah.

During each Ramadan, more than 500 to 1,000 students enjoy free iftar meals at the UMT Mosque daily. To cover the increasing costs, PISM also welcomes contributions from university staff, the local community, corporate companies, and individuals who wish to seize the rewards of giving during this blessed month.

As part of the university’s welfare programme, UMT will also distribute Ramadan contributions to poor families around the campus area, ensuring they also experience the joy of this holy month.

For those who wish to contribute to the UMT Ramadan Festival Fund, donations can be channelled to the UMT Mosque account (CIMB Bank: 8602381189).

The UMT Ramadan Festival not only serves as a platform for worship but also strengthens the spirit of togetherness among the community.
