PUTRAJAYA, 4 November 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) continues to move forward in strengthening its strategic partnerships with local and international industries through the signing of two significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with KST Plant Sdn. Bhd. and Nico Co. (Korea) Ltd.
The MoU exchange ceremony took place at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) in conjunction with the Festival of Ideas, attended by industry representatives, researchers, and senior university officials. This initiative underscores UMT’s ongoing commitment to expanding its research, innovation, and technology transfer capabilities, particularly in the maritime and renewable energy sectors.
The collaboration with KST Plant Sdn. Bhd. will focus on technology transfer from Korea in the field of renewable energy technologies, while also strengthening research in maritime studies. This partnership is seen as a strategic step toward integrating green technologies that support Malaysia’s sustainable development and low-carbon economy aspirations.
Meanwhile, the collaboration with Nico Co. (Korea) Ltd. paves the way for joint research activities and high-impact technology sharing involving advanced performance materials such as KCC (KST Chromized Carbide), KNN (KST Nano Nitriding), KINC (KST Inorganic Nano Ceramic), and KZC (KST Zinc Ceramic).
According to Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Nurul Haqimin Mohd Salleh, Deputy Director of UMT’s Centre for Knowledge Transfer, Industry and Community Linkages (PPIJIM), this strategic collaboration marks a significant leap in building bridges between academia and industry, not only to enhance research capacity but also to empower human capital development.
“This partnership not only expands UMT’s research capabilities in maritime and renewable energy technologies but also provides a platform for knowledge and skills exchange between academia and industry. Such initiatives ensure that the university remains relevant to current technological needs and positions UMT as a regional reference centre for maritime science and sustainability,” he said.
Both MoUs reflect UMT’s strong commitment to strengthening university–industry relations, ensuring that its research and innovations continue to create tangible impacts for society, industry, and the nation.
