KUALA NERUS – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) continues to strengthen its internationalisation agenda when it received 44 students from Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB), Indonesia, for the Inbound Mobility Programme implemented under the strategic collaboration between two faculties from the Malaysian and Indonesian universities.

The programme organised by the Faculty of Economics and Social Development (FPEPS), UMT, together with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UMB, aims to create cross-border learning opportunities, broaden students’ understanding of regional economic issues, and promote the exchange of expertise and culture between both countries.

FPEPS Dean Associate Professor Dr. Nazli Aziz said the mobility programme serves as an important platform to reinforce regional academic relations while enhancing research capabilities between UMT and UMB.

“Regional academic collaboration provides valuable opportunities to expand knowledge networks and create space for joint research. Through interaction and engagement with UMT lecturers and researchers, students are able to understand current challenges and explore new ideas more deeply,” he said.

As part of the core academic component, students also participated in a workshop titled “Turning Data into Discovery: Research Skills Workshop” led by Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Hafaz Ngah.

UMB representative, Associate Professor Lenny Christina Nawangsari, described UMT as an academic partner committed to providing high-quality learning experiences beyond the classroom.

“Collaboration with UMT is not merely academic enrichment, but it also allows students to understand the culture, societal values, and development context of Malaysia. This is crucial in shaping students who are more open-minded, mature, and competitive,” she said.

In addition to attending lectures and workshops, UMB students also took part in community service activities, visits around Terengganu, and engagement sessions with UMT students, further strengthening bilateral ties between the Malaysian and Indonesian campus communities.

The strategic partnership between the two universities demonstrates UMT’s commitment to enhancing international relations and expanding learning opportunities to produce globally competitive graduates in line with the university’s aspirations.

Associate Professor Dr. Nazli Aziz added that the UMT–UMB collaboration is expected to expand further through joint research, the organisation of bilateral seminars, the development of academic modules, and future academic staff exchanges.
