Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Appointed Sixth Vice Chancellor of UMT

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim has been appointed as the sixth Vice Chancellor of the university for a period of two years effective 1 August 2024 until 31 July 2026.

Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri, 53, obtained a bachelor’s degree from University of Sunderland, United Kingdom, in 1995, a master’s degree from University of Warwick, United Kingdom, in 1997, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2006.

Prof. Zamri began his career as lecturer at UMT in 1998. He quickly developed academic leadership skills, leading to him being entrusted with a host of administrative posts, including as Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology in 2010, Director of Centralized Laboratories in 2012, Dean of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering Technology and Informatics in 2019, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) in 2020.

His appointment as UMT Vice Chancellor will help the university strengthen itself to remain as the leading institution in the field of marine science and aquatic resources in the country and drive the development of the economy of the community through the Blue Economy.

Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri expressed his appreciation and thanks to Higher Education Ministry Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir for the trust the ministry has given to him.

He also expressed his thanks to former UMT Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Dr. Mazlan Abd. Ghaffar for his excellent service and contributions during his tenure.

Mohd Zamri urged the UMT community to work together to increase the visibility of the university at the international arena and position the university at the same level as other renowned universities.
