KUALA NERUS—UMT held a charity run named Trail Run 4 Humanity@Bukit Maras 2019 as part of the campaign to help the Gaza community.

The event was jointly organized with MyCARE Malaysia and Bukit Maras Recreational Park.

Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre (PISM) Head Dr Riswadi Azmi said charity run was chosen as it allows people to participate in a health activity and give charity to the needy at the same time, which is the trend nowadays. 

He said the decision to hold a charity run reflects PISM’s initiative in using unconventional dakwah approach in place of the traditional one that normally involves religious talks in order to keep up with the current changes so that the dakwah effort can be sustained.

The charity run was organized in October to promote the National Sports Month and help encourage the community to be more involved in sports, Dr Riswadi said.  

He said PISM is raising fund to help the Muslims in Gaza and charity run was one of the platforms for doing so.

Money from the registration has been handed to the representative of MyCARE Malaysia, one of the NGOs active with helping the Palestinian residents.

The event was well-received by the community, ranging from adults to children. A total of 241 participants took part in the event.

Mohd Faizal Said won the men’s Open category with recorded time of 33 minutes, and Fazilawati Jaafar won the women’s Open category with recorded time of 45 minutes. Both winners managed to trek 5 km up the hill that has a height of 300 metres  from sea level.
