Kuala Nerus – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has been acknowledged by The Malaysia Book of Record as the first public university to receive the ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management System) certification for the following scopes: Management of Training Related to Scuba Diving Licensing Course; Educational Services for Foundational, Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate Levels; and Management of Research and Support Process of University.

“Working towards getting the ISO Certification was not an easy task,” said UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar in her speech during the certificate presentation ceremony.

The effort began with proper planning at every level, with Quality Assurance Committee set up at the university level as well as at the responsibility centre and department levels, Professor Nor Aieni said.

A series of intensive trainings were conducted, including training for internal auditors, Q Clinics were held, and Q-friendly Programmes were organized, she said.

“This recognition reflects the high commitment and team work spirit of all at UMT towards improving the quality of education and services in an effort to place UMT in the same category as other well-established institutions,” Professor Nor Aieni said.

UMT received the certification for ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) for the scope Educational Services at Diploma and Undergraduate Levels and also received for the first time another certification for ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management System on 15 November 2018.

Professor Nor Aieni said that the certifications given by SIRIM International Sdn Bhd were such a proud achievement for UMT.

“UMT is capable of providing educational services that are of the best quality and most comprehensive,” she said.

The scopes of both certifications have been expanded to include all services at UMT. The expanded scope of ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification has been approved to include management of security of information regarding students, staff, finance, accounting, and research.
