KUALA NERUS, 8 Dec 2018—The monsoon weather that has begun to hit the East Coast states did not deter the participants from giving their best during the Monsoon Beach Challenge 2018, here.

The event organised by the Sports and Recreational Centre (PSR) of UMT was aimed at fostering unity and sportsmanship among university students and surrounding communities.

According to Professor Ts Dr Che Mohd Ruzaidi Ghazali, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), the event was joined by 300 from five institutes of higher education in Terengganu and from surrounding communities.

Among the institutions participating were Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (PSMZA), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM Chendering), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM Dungun) and Politeknik Kota, Kuala Terengganu.

There were three sports events organised including Beach Netball (Men’s and Women’s), Kayaking (Men’s and Women’s) and Mixed Beach Volleyball.

Men’s Beach Volleyball was won by the home team while Beach Netball for men and women were won by the Hanelang team and the Slumber team from the  surrounding communities.

Meanwhile Kayaking for men and women were both won by the UniSZA teams. The home team won second and third place for both events respectively.

The winners for each category received cash prizes of RM200, runners-up RM150 and third place RM100.

Professor Ts Dr Che Mohd Ruzaidi Ghazali said that the sports events would be made UMT annual event and more activities would be held to make it more exciting.

The event was organised in conjunction with the official visit from Director General of Higher Education Department Datin Paduka Ir Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir who was here to present the appointment letters to the elected Student Representative Council members for 2018/2019 session.

Also present to watch the final events were Director of Industrial Relations Division, Higher Education Department Professor Dr Arham Abdullah and Director of Student Development Division Dr Zaid Omar. Accompanying the guests were UMT Vice Chancellor and Principal Officers. They also presented the awards to the winners.
