Kuala Nerus – A team of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students has won second place at 2022 IPRoCom (Idea, Product, and Commercial). The team, participating under the name NS Betta Lau, lost to the Fingersnap Enterprise team from the northern region.

The event that managed to attract participations from most higher learning institutions in the country was hosted by UMT.

In his speech at the event, UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said that equipping students with entrepreneurship knowledge is important to help them face the current employment scenario.

“The entrepreneurship sector in Malaysia is developing and becoming more competitive,” he said. “Students have been involved with various entrepreneurship activities from the start, and in fact some have begun doing businesses while still studying.

“This is a positive development, and it is the government’s aspiration that more graduates venture in entrepreneurship.

“Entrepreneurship is seen as a field that can help improve the country’s economy, is competitive, can help increase individuals’ incomes, can help overcome poverty, can generate new job opportunities, and can help improve quality of life.”

Prof. Mazlan also said that transdisciplinary programmes need to be given more attention as they can help graduates to be more competitive.

“These programmes, such as one that combines creative industry and digital entrepreneurship to produce Creativepreneurs, are booming,” he said.

“Exploring this field at higher learning institutions through digital platforms will encourage students to become more proactive in finding opportunities to create new innovative products and have their own jobs.

“This will strengthen the job creator framework.

“Producing successful entrepreneurs is not an easy task as it needs continuous planning, commitment, practices. Entrepreneurship must first become part of the culture, something that is practiced on a daily basis.”
