Kuala Nerus, 7 September 2021 – The 64h National Day celebration proceeded as planned amid the country still facing the threats of the COVID-19 virus, which has mutated into several more dangerous variants .

The patriotism needs to be instilled in each Malaysian, through various efforts and mediums, so that the sacrifices made by the forefathers in defending the country will never be forgotten.

Independence not only means a country is free from being colonized, but it also means its people are civilized, progressive, and open-minded.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), a leading university in the fields of marine science and aquatic resources, joined in the celebration in response to the government’s call to make celebration merrier this year.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar in his speech today during staff assembly held in conjunction with the National Day celebration urged all academicians to continue the fight in the name of a liberated nation.

“As educators, our role is to impart knowledge to the people. Our role is to produce individuals with intelligent mind and confident personality so that they can lead the country in their own way and build a brighter future,” he said.

Professor Mazlan expressed his confidence in the capability and competitiveness of UMT staff to contribute towards the nation’s development. He added that this can be achieved when they embrace excellent work culture.

“We work not only for our benefits, but also for the benefits of the institutions and the country,” Professor Mazlan said. “UMT staff need to cultivate good values such as dedication, competency, effectiveness, sincerity, and integrity.”

He said that high tolerance must also be cultivated, and that it is the instrument that helps people live in harmony.

As part of the celebration, various events adopting the new norms were held, such as National Day e-poster contest, Book Review contest, and online forum.
