UMT, UTAR ENGAGE IN SMART PARTNERSHIP

KUALA NERUS, 6 January—Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise their collaboration on fish farming technology development and commercialisation.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said that the strategic partnership between the two universities started two years ago.

“Both universities have worked with each other since 2020,” Professor Mazlan said. “In the latest collaboration, the focus is on fish farming sustainability and commercialisation, through matching grants.”

“The MOU will enable UMT and UTAR to share the expertise relating to research, knowledge transfer, entrepreneurship, university social responsibility programmes; engage in student and staff exchange; and create opportunities for co-organising workshops, seminars, and conferences,”  Professor Mazlan said.  

The MOU documents were signed by Professor Mazlan on behalf of UMT and Professor Ir. Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR President, on behalf of UTAR.  

“Thank you to UTAR for allowing UMT to contribute its expertise in the establishment of e-Fulfilment Centre,” Professor Mazlan said. “UMT welcomes UTAR to contribute its expertise so that UMT can realise the establishment of e-Fulfilment Centre on its campus as well.”

The centre is expected to provide opportunities to staff, students, and alumni of UMT to carry out activities pertaining to the logistics of good, entrepreneurship, practical training, and it is also expected to create employment opportunities.

The partnership will provide a big impact and increase the role of universities in their capacity as higher learning institutions in generating knowledge and technology and in contributing greatly to the society and the nation, Professor Mazlan added.
