Kuala Nerus, 16 Mei 2022 – “I am grateful for this contribution. It will help ease our pain after losing our most beloved son. He was our hope to help the family, but God loves him more,” said Nordin Mohamad, the father of the deceased Mohamad Amir Nordin, third year student of Bachelor of Management (Marketing).

According to the father, who works at a sawmill in Gua Musang, Mohamad Amir was involved in an accident on 6 March while delivering ordered food. Mohamad Amir took the part-time job to financially support his study.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said that UMT cares about the welfare of its students especially those from the poor and B40 groups.

“These students have been registered under a special programme, and this includes the deceased. As such, the deceased’s heir is entitled to receive a contribution of RM20,000 from the Perlindungan Tenang Voucher (PTV) Programme managed by Hong Leong MSIG Takaful,” said Professor Mazlan during the event at UMT Senate Hall today.

“Losing a son is a great test for parents, especially when the son was their hope to change the family for the better. So, please accept condolence from us.”

Professor Mazlan added that the deceased’s heir also received a special contribution of RM1,000 from UMT and a payment of RM10,000 under the student insurance scheme.

The payment was presented to the father by Hong Leong MSIG Takaful’s Chief Executive Officer Mohd Asri Omar.

PTV programme, which was launched in September 2021, is an initiative by the Malaysian government to widen the social protection to low-income group. It is offered to those qualified through Hong Leong MSIG Takaful, which has been appointed as the coordinator.
