Ramadan is a month eagerly awaited by all Muslims around the world. The blessed month is also known as the month of worshipping. Ramadan marks the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad SAW and during this month Muslims take the opportunity to become closer to Allah through more intensive religious practices.

When Ramadan comes, Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sunset. Fasting is not only about restraining oneself from eating and drinking, but it also involves staying away from acts that will lead to reduced reward. Fasting allows Muslims to cleanse their soul, practice controlling their desire, and improve spiritual strength.

One of the main religious practices during Ramadan is qiamulail or night prayer. Muslims are encouraged to wake up in the middle of the night and perform optional prayers, read Quran, and ask for forgiveness. These acts calm the soul, create a closer connection with Allah, and strengthen one’s faith.

In addition, almsgiving is an important aspect during Ramadan. Muslims are taught to share their keeps with those in need to create a feeling of caring and togetherness. Donating not only lessens the burden of those underprivileged, but the act is blessed by Allah.

Ramadan provides a platform for improving the relationship among Muslims. Breaking fast together at the mosque or other places and holding religious events improve brotherhood and allow Muslims to share happiness with one another.

When performing the religious deeds, there is no need to show off to obtain compliments, such as by uploading photos or captions to social media platforms. Doing so will render the deeds useless if the intention is to be praised, it leads to the feeling of boastfulness, or it incites jealousy among social media followers if it involves exquisite menus at five-star hotels.

Ramadan is not only about abstaining from eating, but is also about cleansing the soul and being closer to Allah. Spiritual deeds such as prayers, qiamulail, almsgiving, and donation are the roads to achieving the goal. Therefore, Muslims are encouraged to treat Ramadan as the time to double the deeds and improve themselves so that they come out of it being blessed and excellent.
