KUALA NERUS—About 200 employees of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) comprising lecturers and support staff were drenched in sweat after having successfully climbed to the top of Bukit Maras that has a height of 350 metres from sea level.

The climbing programme organised by the University Health Centre was one of the activities included in the Let’s Get Healthy Campaign 2019, an event held every year at UMT.

According to the organiser’s representative Rosfazila Bakar, the programme was the first of its kind and was aimed at making people realize the importance of maintaining physical well-being, which could be achieved through activities such as hill climbing.

“Considering that hiking is one form of recreation that has become more popular nowadays, the University Health Centre has decided to invite UMT community to participate in this recreational activity and instil healthy lifestyle habits.

“Alhamdulillah, Praise Be to God, this programme was well-received by UMT community of all levels, and this shows that many of them have started to be interested in healthy activities such as this.

“We also picked up litters along the trail during the climbing in addition to appreciating the beauty of the flora dan fauna in the morning.

“A few participants needed to be helped to reach the top of the hill as they almost fainted due to shortness of breath. With the help of paramedic team from the health centre who were on standby along the trail, the participants managed to fulfil their goal of reaching the top of the hill.

A series of Let’s Get Healthy campaigns will be held for the rest of 2019, and the organiser is planning to hold hiking programmes such as this at different locations if there are positive feedback from the UMT community, Rosfazila said.
