Muslims eagerly await the arrival of Ramadan each year. The special month is the time to grab as much as possible the rewards promised by Allah SWT.

Among the popular practices during Ramadan is giving charity. This is not restricted to only giving money but also giving free food to people for breaking the fast.

The reward for those who provide food for fast breaking is great, equivalent to the reward gained by Muslims whom they give food to, even if the food is just one date. The Prophet SAW said:

“Whoever gives food for fast breaking, he shall receive a reward equivalent to the reward attained by the person he gives food to, without any reduction (Riwayat At-Tirmizy, An-Nasai, Ibnu Majah, Ibnu Hibban, and Ibnu Khuzaemah).

The current state of the economy demands that those who are well-off help the underprivileged people so that they can observe Ramadan appreciatively and celebrate Aidilfitri merrily.

Most corporate agencies and businessmen are also taking this golden opportunity to do good deeds. Some are sponsoring Ramadan buffet for the orphan children at luxurious hotels and established restaurants in order to earn multiple rewards only available in Ramadan and not in other months.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) through its Student Affairs and Alumni Office (HEPA) is also taking the opportunity to do good deeds by distributing Rahmah Basket and traditional porridge “bubur lambuk” to the local communities.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dr. Mohd Izani Mohd Zain said HEPA took the initiative to conduct the programmes as part of the effort to help the local communities in need.

“The programmes were also intended to foster camaraderie among HEPA staff and improve team spirit.

“HEPA staff managed to prepare three big pots of “bubur lambuk”.

In addition, HEPA also distributed Rahmah Baskets to families and the orphans in the communities.

“A total of 300 packs of “bubur lambuk” were distributed among UMT staff and the local communities,” Prof. Mohd Izani said.
