KUALA NERUS—A total of 306 students of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and a student of Kolej Universiti Bestari have been successfully sent to their respective hometowns.

They were the second batch of students being sent home since the enforcement of the Movement Control Order on 18 March this year.

A total of 238 of these students are from the Central zone that includes Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Selangor, while another 68 students are from the Eastern zone that includes Besut, Dungun, Kuantan, Kuala Lipis, and Jerantut.

Twenty-two buses and two vans were used to accommodate all the students. The trips were arranged by UMT Student Affairs Division.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, who was present at the scene, said that UMT made sure the process complied with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the Ministry of Higher Education and the National Security Council.

“I am satisfied with the flow of things tonight,” she said.

Also present to provide assistance and support were personnel from UMT Health Centre and Security Division, Residential College fellows, UMT volunteers, the police, and officers from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Muhammad Nuiem Hassan, Aquaculture student, said that he was grateful for the opportunity to return home to his family after being quarantined for 40 days.

“Praise Be to God, I was able to fulfil my duty as one of the volunteers for the AOK (Act of Kindess) programme and the Gerobok Rezeki (Cupboard of Keeps) project to help the students in need during the MCO. I feel so happy to return home where I can next fulfill my duty towards my family,” he said.

Also present to see the students off was Associate Professor Dr Hafiz Zakariya, UMT Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs).
