KUALA NERUS – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) have forged a strategic alliance through a smart partnership of Audit Performance Valuation System (ezSNAP).

This partnership is hoped to reinforce the function of the Internal Audit Unit in helping the universities improve their financial management.

According to UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Haji Mokhtar, ezSNAP was developed by UMT, then further adapted and improved to meet the university’s needs. This was an indication that the efforts made by UMT’s Internal Audit Unit and Information Technology Management Centre had become a benchmark for other public universities.

“Smart partnership is a form of strategic alliance that brings synergistic benefits to all parties involved. In the context of the public sector, smart partnerships occur when agencies with IT expertise share experiences with other agencies, particularly in system development. As an example, currently the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) is sharing ezSNAP with UMT, and UMT in turn is sharing it with UiTM”.

“This event represents the strategic alliance between UMT and UiTM to reinforce the function of Internal Audit Unit in helping the universities to improve their financial management.

“The ezSNAP system is a mechanism for self-assessing the financial management of departments online. The system was initially developed by the Internal Audit Division at JPM. It was certified by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) in 2012 and was one of the finalists for the Public Sector Innovation Awards–Financial Management in 2013.

“UMT obtained the system from JPM through the smart partnership and made some changes to ensure compliance with UMT’s governance and functions”.

According to Professor Nor Aieni, the main objective of ezSNAP implementation at UMT was to assist UMT management with creating the culture of working based on the best practices to enhance the efficiency of financial management as well as increase the integrity and accountability of every department.

The event, taking place at the Strategic Communication Centre, UMT Putrajaya, was also attended by UiTM Vice Chancellor Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Hassan Said, UiTM Audit Council Member Mohd Sakeri Abdul Kadir, and Ministry of Education Internal Audit Unit Secretary Puan Norrizan Tahir.
