KUALA NERUS – A total of 2,269 Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students are returning to campus in stages. The first batch arrived on 17 October, with the rest expected to return between now until 18 November.

On 14 September, Higher Education Minister Dato Sri Dr Noraini Ahmad announced that students are allowed to return to campus.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said that UMT welcomes the announcement and is taking necessary measures to ensure students’ physical return to campus is completed smoothly without potential spreading of Covid-19.

“UMT management has reviewed the procedure for students’ return and through discussion with various parties has agreed that only students with special needs, such as those involved in lab work and with limited Internet access at home, are allowed to return to campus.

“We give the freedom to the lecturers to adopt teaching and learning medium they see as the best, whether online, face-to-face, or hybrid,” he said.

Professor Mazlan added that symptomatic students will be placed in the isolation building.

“They will be quarantined for 10 days even though the results of self Covid-19 test (Saliva Self-Test) using the test kit are negative,” he said.

Professor Mazlan also added that parents need not worry about students’ safety on campus as UMT stresses their welfare and safety especially at specific areas such as the residential colleges, laboratories, workshops, and classrooms, which are always sanitized according to the standard operating procedure.
