UMT shows appreciation to 319 excellent staff at MAT2023

Majlis Anugerah Tahunan (MAT), or Annual Awards Ceremony, is an important event on Universiti Malaysia Terengganu’s calendar. The event is held to show appreciation for contributions by staff in education, development, management, and research.

The event is also meant to create excellent work culture that pays attention to quality, innovation, and collaborations among the staff.

MAT2023, the latest edition of the event, gave recognition to 319 UMT employees from various ranks. The event was organized to award selected staff for their contributions that have helped put the organization at its best.

The event represented the management’s commitment in showing appreciation towards the staff’s contributions and excellence, including those who have retired, said UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar.

“We hope the awards presented will increase the motivation and commitment among the staff and make them feel appreciated.

“This recognition should motivate staff to improve their performance, which in turn should increase an organization’s productivity and performance.

UMT stresses on the quality of work produced by its staff in every job scope, said Prof. Mazlan.

“Excellent employees will become role models. Them being given recognition will help improve the university’s image as an institution that places emphasis on excellent performance.

“Excellent work culture requires excellent quality, and this will help the university to provide the best education and research to students and society.”

MAT2023 gave out awards for several categories including Excellent Service Award, Excellent Service Special Award, Talent Award, Vice Chancellor Special Award, Long-service Award. It also gave recognition to 19 former staff from various Service Scheme who retired in 2023.

At the event UMT also launched the Talent Development Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027, which has been developed to create excellent work culture.

Staff talents need to be enhanced and managed systematically, said Prof. Mazlan.

“Staff talents are the heart of an organization. They need to be managed well to ensure UMT can achieve its plans.”

The plan is based on a model called 4Q, which consists of quality physical and intellectual development, quality spiritual enrichment, quality value cultivation, and quality leadership building.

The plan outlines seven thrusts that will be implemented from time to time in line with the global development of human resource management so that UMT community will be equipped to face emerging challenges.

By recognizing excellent individuals, MAT2023 will also help build excellent work culture that pays attention to quality, innovation, and cooperation.

The freedom to share ideas, motivation to achieve the organization’s aims, and commitment to quality are the main elements in creating an excellent university environment.
