Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) through its Corporate Communications Office has held a special event to show appreciation for media practitioners in the state.

UMT hosted the event to recognize the important role media practitioners have played in improving UMT’s image, said UMT Pro Vice Chancellor (Corporate Affairs, Industry and Community Linkages) Prof. Dr. Fauziah Abu Hasan.

“UMT would like to thank media practitioners especially those from Terengganu’s media agency for their contributions and continuous support in helping with the university’s publicity through various mediums including print, electronic, social media,” she said.

“We at UMT always appreciate your effort to catapult UMT at the national and international levels, and we set up this event in the hope that our long-established relationship will remain strong.”

At the same event, UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said various innovations have been produced by UMT researchers, and these innovations need to be highlighted so that the public is aware of them and subsequently is able to benefit from them.

“I would like to take this opportunity to share about the latest development regarding a system owned by the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS), UMT, called Malaysia Marine Forecast System (MFAST). It is an innovative product that is the first of its kind in Malaysia, and it was developed through a collaboration with the First Institute of Oceanography, China, and Hidrokinetik Technologies Sdn. Bhd. It offers three hours of forecast data for five days, has a high resolution, and covers important parameters including wind, waves, current, temperature, salinity, and ocean surface height.

“In addition, UMT also offers a database service known as Turtle Imprinting Database System (TIDES), and herbal-based products as tea drinks.

“UMT always welcomes media practitioners to interact with the involved researchers to find out more about important information regarding the products and help to promote the products among the community so that research carried out at UMT can benefit the people and the country,” he said.

Also in attendance at the event were Mohd Ishak Abdillah Ngah, Acting President of Terengganu Journalist Club; and media representatives.
