More than 1000 staff and students of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) took the Corruption-free Pledge during an assembly at Sultan Mizan Hall in conjunction with UMT Integrity Day.

The pledge-taking was led by UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar and was witnessed by Deputy Commissioner Razim Mohd Noor, Director of Community Education Division, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), who was present on behalf of Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), MACC, and SAC Ruslan Che Amad, Director of MACC of Terengganu.

According to Prof. Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, integrity is one of the prerequisites that will help UMT to achieve excellence.

“We have set the goal to make UMT as a marine-focused university that is well-respected nationally as well as globally,” she said.

“The lecturers must fulfill the responsibilities of teaching, researching, publishing, supervising, and consulting. Administrators must manage well and ensure that activities and services are implemented effectively, transparently, and with quality”.

She added that the programme was meant to serve as a reminder to all at UMT to uphold integrity as they carry out their duties and responsibilities and to provide the best services to everyone.

Also held during the programme were a religious talk entitled “Integrity is Piety” delivered by Terengganu Mufti Dato’ Dr Haji Zulkiply Haji Muda and a sharing session on a real experience of a corruption offender by Mohd Firdaus Ramlan.
