Malaysia’s Minister of Education Dr Maszlee Malik, through his letter dated 24th September 2018, has appointed Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Halim Mohammad as the new Chairman of University Malaysia Terengganu Board of Directors for a duration of three years, taking effect 1st October 2018.

Dato’ Halim is the founder of Halim Mazmin Berhad, a well-established shipping enterprise listed on Bursa Malaysia.

Having had a vast experience in the maritime sector and held several top posts in the government agencies, Dato’ Halim has what it takes to catapult UMT to a higher level of academic and organizational excellence, in line with the government’s vision of turning Malaysia into a centre of excellence, regionally and globally.

His appointment is seen as the right choice to help steer UMT to its goal of producing expertise in the field of marine and aquatic resources.

His appointment is also hoped to help increase the employability of UMT graduates in all sorts of fields especially in marine and maritime, locally and globally.

Dato’ Halim was appointed as the successor to the former Chairman of UMT Board of Directors Dato’ Mohammed Azlan Hashim, whose contract expired 30th September of this year.

The Minister of Education has also appointed Encik Azizul Nizam Bidin from ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd as a new member of the Board of Directors representing the private sector for the duration of three years as well.
