Kuala Nerus, 1 August 2022- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) today received 379 Diploma of Fisheries and STEM Foundation students who completed their registration via a drive-through.

The drive-through registration at Sultan Mizan Hall and Residential College went smoothly with help from staff and student volunteers, said Associate Professor Dr. Laili Haji Che Rose, STEM Foundation Director.

It took each student less than 2 minutes to register and obtain the room key via the drive-through registration.

In the evening, the students and their families took their seats in Sultan Mizan Hall to listen to a briefing by the STEM Director.

Of the total students that registered today, 286 are STEM Foundation students and 93 Diploma of Fisheries students.

One of the students, Muhammad Yassin Amaluddin bin Nadim, is an Orang Asli from Johor. He said he was excited when he received the offer to further his study at UMT. This was his first time setting his foot in Terengganu.

Muhammad and his father took a bus to Terengganu last night and arrived early in the morning. They decided to ride in an e-hailing vehicle to reach UMT instead of using the transport the university provided. They said they wanted to experience being on Terengganu Draw Bridge and enjoy the panoramic view of Kuala Terengganu.

Fraternal twins Fatin Atiqah Izzati Muhamad Safiih and Muhammad Izzudidin Muhamad Safiih from Terengganu said they were grateful for being able to further their studies together at UMT and not having to be apart from one another.

Their interest in science since primary school made them decide to explore the fields of science, technology, and mathematics at UMT.

All students will participate in Minggu Jalinan Mesra (MJM), an orientation programme for new intakes, beginning today until 3 August.
