Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) participated in the 18th Belt & Road Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR 2020) on Langkawi on 6-11 January 2020.

 

For this year, there were seven competition categories, namely Sailing, IRC1, IRC2, Club Cruising, Sports Boat, Multihull, and White Sail. A total of 30 teams from around the world, including Malaysia, have took part in this annual event.

 

UMT’s appearance in RLIR was the third one to dates since 2017, according to UMT Sailing Team Chief, Mr. Izhar Mohd Mustaat. “Competition preparation started in October under the guidance of the UMT Sailing Centre and the Sports Council of Terengganu. Ten UMT students have come together this year to gain experience in international competition”, he said.

 

UMT, represented by Izhar Mohd Mustaat, Y.M. Ku Anas Ku Zamil, Mohd Saifullah Mohd Esa, Tuan Ahmad Shami Tuan Zainuddin, Muhammad Nabihan Nor Wandi and Muhammad Amirul Aziq Muhd Asril, represented a total of six participants. UMT Sailing Team took part in the Sports Boat category and, with a score of 28 points, to secured the third place.

 

In addition, two of the UMT students were selected to sail with the Dash Sailing Team and crowned as the champion in the White Sail category. One of the students, Nur Ayuni Md Amin a second-year student of the BSc. Nautical Science program.
