Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said that the decision to collaborate was made following NUUz researchers’ visit to UMT in 2019, from which both universities realized they could benefit from each other.

Professor Mazlan is optimistic that the collaboration will play an impactful role in the development of a Covid-19 recovery plan.

“UMT sees the collaboration as a platform for researchers from both universities to synergize their expertise to devise a Covid-19 recovery plan that is sustainable long-term, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations,” Professor Mazlan said.

Professor Mazlan added that the collaboration reflects the willingness of both universities to engage in a partnership that spans across borders and the commitment of both universities in ensuring the development of the respective countries.

“I am confident that if this collaboration goes well, there will be more opportunities for collaborative projects that can be carried out, which will enable both countries to become more sustainable and set examples for other countries to follow,” he said.

“I hope that the synergy between UMT and NUUz will lead to advances in teaching, research, and services, thereby benefitting the respective societies and nations,” Professor Mazlan said.

Professor Mazlan signed the document on behalf of UMT, while Professor Toshmatov Shukhrat Omonovich, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, signed on behalf of NUUz during the signing ceremony that was held online.
