Kuala Nerus – The COVID-19 pandemic has required Univesiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to hold the 2020 New Intake Pledge Ceremony virtually through Cisco WEBEX and Facebook Live.

A total of 391 students took part in the ceremony, witnessed by UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, Faculty of Fisheries and Food Sciences Dean Professor Dr Mohd Effendy Abd. Wahid, and STEM Foundation Centre Director Associate Professor Dr Laili Che Rose. A total of 145 students are taking a Diploma in Fisheries and 146 are completing a STEM foundation study.

UMT is always committed to providing the best of services to its students, who are also its stakeholders and primary customers, Professor Nor Aieni said.

“We will try our best to produce excellent human capitals,” she said, ”and we will do our best to provide all the facilities that they need.”

Professor Nor Aieni urged the new students to prepare themselves for the new method of teaching and learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The e-learning method will be optimally utilized to ensure that learning sessions can proceed. This method may be new to STEM foundation students, who enter UMT directly from secondary schools after their SPM examinations, she said.

On another note, Professor Nor Aieni said that UMT has developed 21 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) that allow borderless learning process at any time in light of the emergence of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). These courses have won several national awards, she said.

UMT has also renovated some of the learning and teaching spaces to make them more conducive, comfortable, and attractive by including digital elements that support the new trend of active learning, she said.
