Kuala Nerus, 1 March – A group of UMT students have returned to campus today, making it lively again after a year of being vacant due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The campus was reopened following the announcement on 31 January by the Minister of Higher Education after discussion with student councils, management of higher learning institutions, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, health experts, and National Security Council.

The students were excited to be on campus again for the hybrid teaching and learning sessions.

However, they will be required to undergo strict screening and comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread of the Covid-19 on campus.

One of the students, Deenatul Aiman Ras, 22, said that she was happy to be back on campus.

“I totally agree with the decision by the Ministry of Higher Education to allow students to return to campus,“ she said. “When on campus we can focus better on our study as the environment is conducive to learning, with easy access to the Internet.”

She said that the biggest challenges of learning from home have been noisy young family members and uncomfortable environment.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to return to campus today, and I hope that all of us who have registered will be able to comply with the guidelines and the SOP to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 on campus,” said Deenatul, who hails from Bentong, Pahang.

UMT welcomed 250 students on the first day of campus reopening. The time frame for students’ return to campus is until 8 March.
