PSNZ OPEN DAY (POD) 2018 AS PLATFORM FOR SHARING INFORMATION AND SPURRING READING CULTURE

KUALA NERUS – Sultanah Nur Zahirah Library (PSNZ) held its open day POD 2018 on 22nd October 2018 to give UMT staff and visitors from the surrounding communities the opportunity to meet and talk to the librarians about the various services provided by the library, in its role as the caretaker of knowledge.

The three-day event was held in place of the Reading Month programme which PSNZ had successfully organised every year to coincide with the national Reading Month programme.

PSNZ Head Librarian Abu Hassan Ghazali said that the change of the programme’s concept was in line with the current function of the library that focused more on providing up-to-date information and on being customer-friendly.

“POD 2018 was held with the objective of strengthening the relationship and collaborative networking between PSNZ and its customers comprising all levels, from school students to elite groups.

The event also acts as a medium for us to disseminate information to the customers about the services and new facilities offered by the library,” said Abu Hassan.

Abu Hassan further added that all kinds of activities had been planned during POD 2018 to attract visitors.

Among the activities held were sales carnival, food truck, National Anti-drugs Agency exhibition, Department of Social Welfare exhibition and sales, Terengganu Public Library exhibition, colouring contest for children, children story telling competition, indoor and outdoor games, safety and fire prevention dialogue by the Fire and Rescue Department, and Let’s Donate Blood campaign.

“With this kind of programme, it is hoped that the number of visitors frequenting the library increases, allowing the love-to-read culture to breed,” Abu Hassan commented.
