The field of Computer Science will remain relevant well into the future

Everyone wants to have a good life. Sometimes the process of charting the future is influenced by external factors, thus causing a dilemma. Decisions taken regarding the future are important to ensure a person’s journey of life is always on the right track.

A decade ago, school students wanted to have jobs that were glorified then, such as a doctor, teacher, engineer, and the like. Now, the evolution of technology has created various new jobs and at the same time vanquished old jobs as the duties have been taken over by machines or robots.

At present, primary school students may be facing difficulty in deciding their future careers, which currently are not in existence yet. They may not have been fully exposed yet at the current stage to the impacts of modernization.

In deciding a future career, students need to identify the types of jobs that are always in demand and remain relevant amidst technological changes. Among careers considered to always be in demand are those related to data analyses, software programming, computing, and the like.

Most large companies need data analysts to examine data on business activities conducted for improvement. Data that are accurate, complete, and detailed help organizations to identify weaknesses and overcome them with proper actions at the first attempt.

In addition, online business is also one of the current choices. Thus, it should be considered as of the main choices in building a career. Whether as a platform developer or its user, the opportunity should be made full use of to generate income.

Malaysia is moving towards becoming a developed country. Changes after changes keep occurring in the manufacturing industry. Most see the needs for engineers or experts with skills in developing systems, applications, and services like artificial intelligence and analyzing data to create end products with high quality and minimum production cost.

Academic programmes in computer and technology in the country are offered by most public and private institutions of higher learning. Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is one of the public universities that also offers academic programmes related to computer and information technology.

Among the programmes offered at the university are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Foundation, Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering), Bachelor of Computer Science (Mobile Computing), Bachelor of Science (Data Analytics), and Bachelor of Science (Applied Mathematics) with Honours.

These programmes are offered to produce highly skilled generations to support the country’s development as it moves towards Industrial Revolution 4.0 and beyond.

These programmes can motivate all sectors to embrace the new technologies that will be used in new ways to overcome the challenges relating to the economy, employment, and life in the future.

However, many industries nowadays are still using the old method and have not understood how to use technology such as Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data, business analyses, and artificial intelligence.
