KUALA NERUS–Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has received the certification of Information Security Management System to MS ISO/IEC 27001:2013, making it one of the few universities to do so in Malaysia.

This recognition inspired UMT to double the effort to further improve the level of information security and also integrity in the organisation, said UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar.

This recognition served as a proof that UMT was able to provide excellent educational services that met the needs of the customers, she said.

“That UMT was awarded two ISO certifications this year is an achievement we can all be proud of,” the Vice Chancellor said.

The certification to MS ISO/IEC 27001:2013 ISMS for the scope Undergraduate Academic Management covering student registration and maintenance of registration information at the data centre was the first for UMT. Earlier in August, UMT was awarded MS ISO 9001:2015 certification for Educational Services for Diploma and Degree Programmes.

“All the efforts put into obtaining the certification of ISMS, by conducting a series of workshops, have paid off,” Professor Nor Aieni said.

At the same event, the Vice Chancellor also congratulated the staff who represented UMT in the National Team Excellence Convention organised by Malaysia Productivity Corporation on 13 November. The team I FOR LEARN received Five-star Gold award and finished in the top 20 Best Federal Public Sector Team, qualifying it to participate at the International Convention in Quality Control Circle (ICQCC) in Japan in 2019.

The other teams were VELOCITY and BLAZE, which received Four-star Gold and Three-star Gold awards respectively.

“I also congratulate team MEDIX6 from the University Health Centre and team SMICE from Sultan Mahmud Islamic Center on receiving the Platinum award at the Internal Quality and Productivity Convention (IQPC) in Batam Island, Indonesia on 27 November this year,” Professor Nor Aieni said.
