KUALA NERUS –  UMT organized the first ever “Off-Campus Carnival” for the local community, held at Sultan Mizan Stadium, Gong Badak, on 18th and 19th October.

Among the activities held were traditional sports, desa run, car shows, traditional dances, dikir barat, action songs, masterchef, aerobics, and forum.

Its director Muhammad Asyraff Aiman Roslan said that one of the programme’s goals was to reintroduce forgotten traditional sports to the younger generation.

Muhammad Asyraff also said that in this first ever programme, visitors had a chance to meet artists and celebrities who had been involved in religious television programmes.

“The carnival was also used as a platform for dakwah effort. We invited Azman of Pencetus Ummah show and Heliza Helmi for this purpose,” added Muhammad.

The two-day carnival that was officiated by Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar also offered food and product items at a discount.

“This programme gave the students in the committee the experience of managing a big event and the opportunity to hone their soft skills, as preparation for the working world later,” said Muhammad.

Meanwhile, UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar in her speech said that she hoped a programme like this could be continued in the future, involving more students and larger community, since this kind of programme could foster a solid relationship and close cooperation between the university and the local community.

Also present were Chairman of Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment Committee Dr Alias Razak and UMT principal officers.
