Gold Quran Exhibition

At the same event, gold Quran which was a heritage of Terengganu sultanate was displayed for the first time after comprehensive detailed study about it was successfully conducted by UMT researcher Dr Riswadi Azmi, also Director of Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre UMT.

The exhibition was displayed to the Sultan and Sultanah of Terengganu at UMT 16th Convocation Dinner.

UMT took the opportunity to display to the public the beauty and the opulence of Terengganu Quran manuscript which is currently the oldest, dated 27 December 1836, produced during the reign of Sultan Mansor II from 1831-1836.

The second oldest Quran manuscript found has the date 18 March 1859 noted on it, which was during the era of Sultan Baginda Omar, and the third oldest is the biggest Terengganu Quran manuscript that has the date 1871 noted on it, which was also during the era of Sultan Baginda Omar.

According to Dr Riswadi, Terengganu was well-known in South East Asia for being the state that produced unique copies of Quran that looked beautiful and were decorated with gold.

This was proven when several Terengganu Quran manuscripts were found at various locations.

The exhibition represented the findings of a study that examined the contribution of Terengganu sultanate in the copying of the quran, the writing and printing history, and several pictures of gold Quran manuscripts found in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Quran manuscript exhibition was held at UMT Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre and open to public 11-13 November 2018.
