KUALA NERUS – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has rebranded its PSNZ Auditorium as Sulaiman Auditorium after the top management had endorsed the name change.

In 2007, Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Sulaiman Md Yassin was appointed as the first UMT Vice Chancellor after KUSTEM had been upgraded to become a full-fledged university and given the UMT name. He assumed the post until 2009. During his tenure, many successes had been achieved by UMT at the national and international levels.

According to Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) Prof. ChM. Dr. Marinah Mohd Ariffin, the name change to Sulaiman Auditorium is to show appreciation for Professor Sulaiman’s contributions and great services.

Professor Sulaiman, who began his career as lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia, served as Rector of KUSTEM (University College of Science and Technology of Malaysia) from 2004 until 2007.

“UMT acknowledges its leaders who have contributed to the university’s development. Their names will be used to identify some of UMT’s infrastructure such as buildings and halls. We have Sultan Mizan Hall, Mahyuddin Auditorium, and Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sports Complex. Thus it is fitting that the name of another UMT leader should be used to rebrand PSNZ Auditorium, in this case Professor Sulaiman,” said Professor Marinah during the PSNZ Auditorium to Sulaiman Auditorium rebranding ceremony.

The auditorium located on the first floor of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Library was opened in 2004 and has a capacity of 250 people.

The venue has been used for various activities by UMT community. It is also available for rent for personal use and to outsiders, such as private organizations and government departments and agencies.
