More than 4000 Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students have been able to save some money when the Menu Rahmah Programme introduced by the government began to be offered at the university.

UMT Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohod Izani Mohd Zain said almost all the cafeterias on campus are offering the menu in response to the government’s call.

“More than 20 cafeterias are operating currently. Most of them are offering the Menu Rahmah Programme to help lessen students’ financial burden.

“The implementation of the menu has started since February and it will continue throughout the month of Ramadan.

He said UMT management is always concerned with students’ welfare and constantly doing the monitoring.

“Students need not worry as the management listens to their voices. Now students can have healthy and complete meals at lower prices. This will help students to focus on their academic without distraction.”

Student Council President Mohd Hisyamudin Razali said the initiative helps to lessen students’ burden.

“I believe the offering of this special menu can lessen the burden of students not only living on campus but those staying off campus.”

UMT is a public university with a niche area in marine science and aquatic resources. The university offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Its Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) has been recognized as the seventh Higher Institution of Excellence (HICoE) in Malaysia.

In addition, its Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries (AKUATROP) has also been recognized as a HICoE for Future Food Research and Innovation under the theme Sustainable Shellfish Aquaculture.
