Kenyir Lake located in Terengganu is a popular tourist destination. Created as a result of Kenyir Dam development in 1985, it is the largest man-made lake in South East Asia.

The expansive lake represents one of nature’s beauty waiting to be explored, and to nature lovers, the lake is like their haven.

The lake is surrounded by more than 300 islands, originally hill peaks that did not get submerged during the dam’s creation. The lake looks stunning with its greenish water, influenced by the tropical rain forest occupying the surrounding islands. The tranquil scenery is a form of therapy for those looking for some peace of minds.

Apart from being a water catchment site, Kenyir Lake is known as an international tourist destination. The lake offers many valuable treasures to be explored, its lakes, rapids, waterfalls, rivers populated with freshwater fish, hills, mountains, caves, forests filled with exotic flora and fauna.

The lake’s uniqueness and beauty attracts tourists from local regions as well as from overseas.

Recently, Corporate Communication Centre (PKK) of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu organized a programme on teamwork reinforcement at Kenyir Lake to enhance the staff’s camaraderie and plan the strategies for 2020.

During the two-day and a night stay on a houseboat, there were many activities taking place. Through the fishing activity, some of the participants were able to catch fish not commonly found in other rivers.

In addition, kayaking was held to improve the spirit of teamwork. Needing synchronized movement and focus to make it work, kayaking was a suitable activity for the objective.

In the evening, the activity taking place by Sungai Lasir was outdoor barbequing. The beautiful night and the melodious sounds of the forest insects rarely heard made the activity even more relaxing. The fairly low temperature allowed the tired bodies exhausted by the day’s activities to have a good night’s sleep.

PKK Director Syirfan Indra Mitra Surya Hussin said he was pleased with the programme’s success.

“Praise Be to God, although not all the staff were able to join, the programme went well. Thank you to Rozita Alias, the head of the programme, for being able to successfully organize the activities. It is hoped that PKK will be more proactive and more creative in helping to enhance UMT’s image,” he said.
