KUALA NERUS – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has taken a new approach to the implementation of the Sea Survival and Heritage Appreciation programme (SPLW) since the start of 2019.

The programme that has become the trade mark of UMT is organised every year as one of the extracurricular activities students must complete to meet graduation requirements.

For the first programme held this year at the UMT beach, a total of 110 students successfully completed a series of activities including water confident, kayaking, snorkelling, and heritage trail.

The water-based activities are aimed at exposing the students to the risks and dangers that exist while being in the water and the steps to be taken when facing critical situation.

In addition, the Sea Survival and Heritage Appreciation programme acts as a platform for the sharing of knowledge of the oceans and for the imparting of the fundamental skills to the students who are not from marine-related academic programmes.
