Kuala Nerus, 21 April 2019 – Academics of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) were reminded to give emphasis to high-impact publications that can be used as references by many.

UMT Deputy Chancellor (Academic and International) Professor Ir. Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman said that a university will be highly respected by the world if large amount of its research and publications are constantly referred to.

“Publication is one of the core responsibilities that must be fulfilled by all university lecturers. As academics, they are to carry out five principal duties comprising teaching, publication, supervision, consultation and community service.

Whether we like it or not, a university will be considered excellent and highly regarded by the world when its research and publications are referred to. For that to happen to UMT, all publications need to be published only in high-impact journals. I am emphasizing the publication in Web of Science, or also known as ISI Journals, not in non-indexed journals,” said Professor Noor Azuan who is currently carrying out the function of UMT Vice Chancellor.

He added that UMT employees including lecturers and support staff need to be more efficient in terms of time management and be more creative in completing the duties, without waiting for instructions from the higher-ups and with minimal supervision.

Professor Noor Azuan was delivering his speech during the UMT Staff Assembly programme at the Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre, UMT, which was attended by the principal officers, senior officers, lecturers and academic support staff.

Meanwhile, there was also the launching of Fastabiqul Khairat Fund 7.0 (Race Towards Good Deeds Fund 7.0) coordinated by the Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre to be used in conjunction with the coming Ramadhan month such as preparing food for breaking the fast.
