A Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) student has been selected to represent the country at an international event.

Dhipan Raj Subramaniam, Marine Biology student from the Faculty of Science and Marine Environment (FSSM), will be representing Malaysia at the XXVI Ordinary Session of the Asian-Pacific Federation of Clubs and Associations (AFUCA) for UNESCO Executive Board Meeting and the International Raising Awareness Seminar on Education for Sustainable Development.

The event with the theme “Educational Transformation: Develop, Implement, Assess” will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 1-4 April 2023.

Dhipan was appointed by a panel of juries based on his displayed leadership and his experience in managing clubs and organizing events at the university and community levels.

The Marina Club president has collaborated with corporations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to promote the environmentally caring culture to ensure the sustainability of the environment.

Meanwhile, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Izani Mohd Zain said Dhipan’s appointment is a recognition for UMT.

“Congratulations, we are proud of you,” he said. “Do your best and let the country’s name be heard at the international stage.”

First set up as a fisheries centre in 1979, UMT has evolved and managed to make a name for itself at various levels through its academic achievement, research and innovation, and student development programmes.

The university has been listed in many rankings, including the Times Higher Education (World University Rankings), Times Higher Education (Impact Rankings), Times Higher Education (World University Rankings by Subject), QS World University Rankings, QS University Rankings (Asia), UI GreenMetric, MyMoheS, Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA), and SETARA.
