Kuala Nerus, 23 March – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) announced today that it has launched the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

UMT Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar said that the initiative is intended to help the students who are being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The fund will be used to buy food and other basic and special necessities for the students during the period of the Movement Control Order which will end 30 March,” she said.

“We set up the COVID-19 Special Fund to facilitate the donation from the public who are kind enough and aware of the plight of the students who are being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

“The public is welcome to provide donation in the form of daily necessities or ready-made meals as they see fit. We have a team of volunteers who will manage the donations, namely the Act of Kindess (AOK) team and Gerobok Rezeki (Cupboard of Keeps) which have been actively involved in helping cash-strapped students receive food items and other daily needs.

Donation to the special fund can be made via CIMB Bank account no. 8601751742 (COVID-19)

She added that the initiative involving the giving away of free food and other items is meant to lessen the burden and anxiety of the affected students and limit their movements in light of the Movement Control Order.

A total of 1,578 UMT students are forced to stay put either on campus or nearby throughout the enforcement of the Movement Control Order.
