Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) successfully carried out a three-day flood volunteer mission from 7 – 9 March 2023. The team comprised UMT Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), members of UMT Student Council, and several staff from the Office of Student Affairs and Alumni.

The mission was carried out in Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi, Johor, where a number of UMT students had been affected by the flood since the beginning of March. The team distributed KPT-UMT Rahmah Basket containing staple food and financial aid to lighten the burden of the flood victims.

To gather details about the affected students, the team created a Google Form, where the students provided information about their locations and the current status. The team carried out the mission based on the received information.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Izani Mohd Zain said the flood volunteer mission was a medium for channelling aids to students that were affected by the flood. It was intended to lessen their burden before they begin the new coming semester. It was also part of the initiative to strengthen the relationships between university management and students.

A total of 70 baskets were distributed to Kota Tinggi residents. The team also visited temporary evacuation centres and houses of students affected by the recent flood.
