Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Oriental University (Al-Bukhary), Uzbekistan, have agreed to collaborate with each other in the fields of economy and tourism and to explore potential new fields that can benefit both parties.

The two institutions expressed the intention to work together when the delegation from Oriental University led by Prof. Dr. Murodjon Akhmedov, the Rector, visited UMT, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar.

“UMT has also agreed to offer its expertise in specific niche areas, such as fisheries and aquaculture as well as food security.

“We will also specify in detail an inbound and outbound programme to enable an exchange of students between the two universities.

UMT is willing to offer its academic programmes at Oriental University through a franchise programme.

“We plan to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the nearest future, and UMT will receive Arabic instructors on its campus.

“Several other scopes will be examined, such as co-organization of conferences, student admission, joint programmes, and other events mutually beneficial,” he said.

First set up as a fisheries centre in 1979, UMT has undergone several evolutions and managed to make a name for itself at various levels in terms of academic achievements, research and innovation, and student development.
