UMT, KRU form collaboration in the fields of entrepreneurship and creative industry

Cyberjaya, 21 July 2022- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KRU Foundation and KRU Entertainment to collaborate in the fields of entrepreneurship and creative industry. The current MOU is the second document signed between the parties in their effort to foster academic-industry relationship.

UMT through its Centre for Knowledge Transfer and Industrial Networking will work with the industry to develop joint programmes especially in the fields of digital entrepreneurship and creative industry.

“There are several collaborations UMT can establish with KRU in the field of creative industry,” Vice Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar said. “These include book publications in the forms eBooks and audiobooks, and establishment of iLike – eCommerce entrepreneurship platforms for displaying innovative products by students and staff, such as Shopee and Lazada.”

Prof. Mazlan hoped the strategic partnership with KRU Foundation and KRU Entertainment can be strengthened further so that various digital entrepreneurship up-skilling and re-skilling training programmes can be held to help improve students’ skills.

Also, UMT academics, professional staff, and support staff will have the opportunities to attend training programmes in the field of creative industry and undergo industrial attachment.

Meanwhile, Dato’ Norman in his speech said KRU is actively establishing collaborations with higher learning institutions in its effort to uplift the digital entrepreneurship platform and creative industry.

He said that such collaborations have the potential to produce more creative entrepreneurs that can help boost the country’s economy.

The partnership with KRU will improve the quality of education and produce more digital entrepreneurs among UMT students and graduates, and improve the talent, creativity, and work quality of UMT staff.

The signing ceremony was held at KRU head quarters in Cyberjaya. UMT was represented by Prof. Mazlan while KRU Foundation and KRU Entertainment were respectively represented by KRU Foundation President Dato’ Norman Abdul Halim and KRU Entertainment Vice President of Operations Zarina A. Rahman.
